“You need to change something now,” my friend Annette told me. “Because otherwise you’re going to tell me in a month that you’re burned out and need a new job.”
I’ve been thinking about burnout a lot recently and feel like I’m starting to notice it more and more with work and outside of work. I appreciated the insight about being busy and feeling accomplished / moving forward vs being stuck - as someone who sees themselves as a high performer / achiever, this is a constant battle with myself, but I’m working on it
This post resonated, especially #2 and #3. And #1 is a great reminder -- thanks for sharing!
For me, on #4, one small unlock was just having simple way to ask, something like: 'Hey, feeling a bit burned out on X topic, could I get your help in driving it to completion?' Usually the other person gets it immediately and will jump in to help.
Focus my attention on something energizing at work, even if it’s small. - this is so important! Since my business is coaching, this is easy. I just try to figure out if there is a way I can do something for a client that they did not expect. Suddenly my energy level goes through the roof
I just came out of a quite hectic Q1 and we’re thinking a lot: what leads to emotional frustration and burnout? What were the signs of it?
And like you said, there are always signs that tell it’s time to pause.
I analyzed my past experience and saw that short 2-3 day trips is what helps me to fill in the battery while taking longer 7-10 days vacations every quarter.
