I am going through the same phase in my new Job. Reading this gave me a lot of context and breather . Coming from an ecosystem where i was leading Product, program and Platform to a new Job where I am finding it difficult to set my foothold. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.

So refreshing to hear this. I think the expectation to make changes before a 3 month ramp up is just short-sighted, yet I hear it so often.

This is insightful! Thanks for your writing and please continue, I’m a fast learner and could listen to more of what you have to say.

Stepping into Head of Product Design with lots of excitement and fear.

Thanks @Ami for this very useful post full of wisdom and great advise I stumbled upon today. An additional tactic my previous manager used which I found very effcetive for my onboarding was to create a temporary slack channel xyz_onboarding (archived after 90 days) and added leads that I was to work with. This was the safe place where I could post any questions that I got during my onboarding. She checked the channel from time to time and made sure either my questions are answered, or answer herself or tagged people to help answer. Not only did it ramp me up fast but also having her strong support enabled me to fit in into organization quickly.

I became a manager recently and I’ve now reached that struggling point you are mentioning. In fact, I realized that as I was reading your post.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.

Great guide, definitely will use this for the new hire that is joining my team. I really like how you structured it and balanced handholding and giving the new hire free reigns.
